Will the world end on 21 Dec 2012? Part 1 - By Raj Rao
Mayan Civilization (a mesoamerican civilization that existed in the 10th Millennium BC) has been steeped in mystery for hundreds of years. It is only recently that Meso-American Astrologers, Anthropologists and experts in Cuneiform script have been able to reveal the secrets contained in the mayan literature, most important of them are the Mayan Calendars.
Yes, Mayan people used more than one calendar - not just to keep track of dates but to lead a life in harmony with the Creation. And we have been told that their most important calendar called Tzolkin (which started as far back as 2114 BC (4000 years ago) suddenly comes to an end on 21st Dec 2012.
Does this portent a global catastrophe? Is the world going to come to a grinding halt? Or does this hint at something more spiritual? Lets go on a journey and figure out what the experts say.
To get close to the Mayan mindset and culture, we need to look at their calendars. There are two calendars that is of interest to us, one is called the Tzolkin - which was used to forecast the day spiritually, and the Long Count - that was used to measure period over a span of thousands of years.
The Tzolkin consists of 260 days divided into 20 Zodiac Signs (as against our 12 zodiac signs) and 13 Galactic Energies or Tones from the Sun. The 20 Zodiac Signs have a symbol but the Galactic Tones are simply referred by a number 1 to 13.
The Long Count Calendar several measurements of periods. The lowest one was called a ‘Kin’ which is roughly equivalent to 1 Day. 20 Kins make a Uinal. You can say that Mayan observed a 20-day ‘month’. The Year consisted of 18 such months or Uinals. Mayan Year was called a ‘Tun’ and had 360 days. 20 Tuns made a Katun (of 19.7 years) and 20 Katuns made a Baktun of 394 Years. They also had higher (but less used measures) like Piktun (7900 years), Kalabtun (158,000 years), Kinchiltun (3.15 Million years), Alautun (63.1 Million years) and Hablatun (1.26 Billion years). Interestingly, a Hablatun happens to be 1/13th of the 16.4 Billion years ago when the cells first appeared on the earth. You will find several patterns of 20 and 13 in the calculations above. Both the numbers were very special to the Mayan.
The Mayan believed that there were 9 Patterns of Creation (each with a Day and Night). The road to Creation is like a pyramid with 9 levels. (in fact most of the pyramids around the world including Egypt are of 9 levels!) . Each of these 9 levels represent an immensely long period of time, with each level above of shorter duration. You can imagine this as a set of vessels - the biggest vessel is at the bottom (level 1) and a vessel 20 times smaller than that is kept inside the first vessel (level 2) and so on until we reach the 9th level.
What this means is that the rate of Creation has been accelerating! What took a million years to create at one level would take only 50,000 years at the next level and 2500 years in the next… Have you ever wondered why the world around us and our life seems to be moving faster and faster?!
I will leave you with just the 9 Patterns and the period they represent to chew on….
1. Cellular - 1.26 Billion years - began 16.4 Billion years ago
2. Mammalian - 63.1 Million years - began 840Million years ago
3. Family - 3.1 Million years - began 41 Million years ago
4. Tribal - 180,000 years - began 2 Million years ago
5. Cultural - 7900 years - began 102,000 years ago
6. National - 396 years - began 5,116 years ago
7. Planetary - 19.7 years - began 1755 AD
8. Galactic - 360 days - began 4th Jan 1999
9. Universal - 20 days - 10th Feb 2011

Would it be so bad if the world does comes to an end. I feel it would be in fact nice. A new beginning. For a change human will actually understand that there is a power above them, one who controls it all.
As for me, this information about the mayan calender was wonderful and a new life would be welcomed.

Dear Readers,
Since I am aware much about the ancient history and civilizations, I wish to say this is not true at all; regarding Mayan civilization it was not as civilized as any other during its time morever it began to fall apart during its begginings itself. The civilization short lived due to internal clashes/ other clans, natural catastrophy and foreign invastions, etc. Hence 21st Dec 2012…is not an end to anything, its only an incomplete calendar!!. So stop worrying.
Looking at anything we can asume whatever it may mean or may not mean; it doesn’t mean has to be ones conclusion.Reasons will vary only if we think deeper.

It is impossible that any human being cannot predit futhure, so I think it may be a staunt to divert people from any rise in prices of oil,etc.

ajay chaubal is partially right…..only thing is this process of clearing most of the evil from earth which has been initiated since 2001 will reach a milestone in 2012….process ends in 2025……and then on will take another decade or two to have a ONLY GOOD left in harmony.

I DON’T BELIEVE IN THIS CALENDAR, OUR ANCIENT INDIAN CALENDAR IS ACCURATE AND UPTO DATE EACH AND EVERY FACTORS ARE SCIENTIFIC AND THE MODERN ASTRONOMY ALSO ACCEPTS THIS FACT. MAYANS MAY HAVE SEEN THE END OF THERE CULTURE INFACT THAT HAS COME AT END MORE BEFORE THIS. INDIAN PANCHANGS ARE 100% CORRECT AND ACCURATE, THAT TOO WITHOUT ANY SCIENTIFIC EQUIPEMNTS.

yes, i too had heard about this issue previously during 1994 by a friend who is a christian. i dont know how far truth lies in that but he told me its there in bible about the end of the world. according to my knowledge world has started ending as science is developing. it is in the form of bomb blasts, terrorism, global warming which end in rise of water level in sea. even due to poisones gases and chemicals outputted to environment may lead to calamities.

However, it also means that the powers that be which control the Universe have decided to purge the universe of things and people which have no real value in nuorishing and sustaining the Universe for the common good of all; also purge the evils arising out of religious, political, social dogma which create division and hatred among peoples of nations and society at large.A new society based on appreceiation of beauty and love in nature and Universal brotherhood of humankind can emerge in the long term intrest of the inhabitants of the planet earth.

Actually go to see according to the Panchangs we are in Kalyug now which is corroborated by the Bible which says this is the clay age “feet of clay” meaning computer age, which is the last stage of life which is the decadent age before it is completely destroyed to give rise to the golden age. An age of innocence bereft of sin & corruption.So maybe 21.10.2012 will be the end of a decadent era. So lets wait & watch. The way world events are being played out I think there will be a nuclear show down in 2012, what with countries like Iran becoming nuclear capable and relations between US, Russia & China taking on adverse proportions. The economic attack on China has already started. Suddenly the west just realised that Chinese products are toxic? Something India knew all along. AIDS will reach epidemic proportions. So actually we are seeing the beginning of the end right now. So relax. If you are good you have nothing to fear as God the SUPREME ONE will take care of you. If you are Wicked the better live in FRIGHT !

I do believe in astrology, but before accepting anything I preffer “PROOFs”. Why this differences in the astrology calenders where each civilization has separate dates events & so on is it just to confuse the people. The world isn’t going to end in 2012, though readings about past civilizations are interesting.
the proof is that God’s final Prophet Muhammad (peace on him) gave many prophecies including prophecies about the end of the world (some of the prophecies have already come true) (see below).
But there are prophecies which havent happened yet, including the second coming of Jesus, Gog & Maggog, rising of the sun from the west, etc.
Some of the prophecies which have come true have to do with Iraq: In a prophecy it is stated that there will be a mountain of gold in the Euphrates river in Iraq(which may be real gold or it may mean oil) and people will fight over it and 99% of the people (in Iraq) will be killed. This prophecy has come true. today the powers are fighting for oil in Iraq and hundreds of Iraqis die daily. Just this one prophecy proves the prophethood of Prophet Muhammad (peace on him).

while it is sure that the world is going to end some day, we don’t know when. but why should we be concerned about when it will end for everyone, when it can end for us anytime, even this moment, since death can take us any moment and no one knows the time of death. therefore, we should be concerned more about our own fate.
we must strive to work for the life after death as it is surely coming. When we die, it isn’t the end of the world. rather it is the beginning of a new life: the life in the grave, where the evil / unbelievers will be punished and the good righteous believers will be in peace.
then one day (the appointed day whose time noone knows except the one and only Almighty God) the trumpet will be blown and the whole world will come to an end.
all living things will die and the mountains will crumble, the sun and the moon will collide, and the oceans will dry up, etc. (the complete details are in the Holy Quraan).
then the trumpet will be blown a second time and all humans will come out of there graves / places where they dead bodies’ remains lied, and will go toward God.
Then God will judge all and will let the righteous believers to enter Heaven while the evil wrongdoers / unbelievers will go to the everlasting hell where they will burn forever but death won’t come to them a second time.
Hell is a very awful place which we should all strive to avoid, by believing in the oneness of God and the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace on him) as well as other prophets, the holy books, the angels, the divine destiny, the day of Judgement, the life after death , and by doing good deeds and by avoiding bad ones.
The way to this pure life is by reading the Holy Quraan. each of you should read it with an open mind. always remember, there is no harm in reading the Holy Quraan, as noone can force anyone to convert. the final choice will be yours.
From the Holy Quraan:
I do call to witness the Resurrection Day: and I do swear by the self-reproaching soul; Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones? No, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers. But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time in front of him. He questions: “When is the Day of Resurrection?” At length, when the sight is dazed, and when the moon is buried in darkness, and the sun and moon are joined together; That Day will man say: “Where is the refuge?” (The Holy Quraan, Chapter 75)

Its very interesting 2know that Such Calendars are available for Time Pass. I believe its not true since We are HIGHLY advanced from the Mayan civilization. We should not believe such Calendars. Just chill out & carry on with life!
