The Vedic Love Story – By Madushri Mukherjee

The Vedic Love Story“Tread softly because you tread on my dreams” – W B Yeats

Going back to the beginning of civilization, early man could survive as they started to live in a group and in harmony. Hence marriage evolved – the most sacred binding that man created in order to save mankind. What is there in it that makes life “ heaven or hell on earth”? What binds two people more than anything else and brings in joy as well as new life?

In astrology, the Seventh House of the horoscope defines this area of life. Marriage is like an ocean where there is immeasurable abundance of emotional bonding – the possibilities for a couple; astrological comparison as well as other signatures attached to the house of marriage quite accurately quantifies it.

The Seventh House is one of the most important houses of the horoscope. When its ruler is well placed and unblemished, it showers grace to the individual’s married life. Apart from the ruler of this house Venus, Jupiter and Mars also play very important roles in context to the Seventh House signifying marriage. Venus signifies wife in a male horoscope while health of Jupiter is most important for marriage connection as well as possibility of children. Fiery Mars treads in the intimate area of relationship between man and a woman. In other ways, Vedic astrology considers Mars and Venus as planets signifying marriage and married life.

Apart from the ones mentioned above, how can we ever forget the planet that signifies happiness – quick-footed Moon? Love and emotional bonding is what makes man woman relationship bloom – this is the area of beautiful Moon. In Vedic astrology Moon is always the referral point of human psychology, desires, aversions etcetera. The brighter the Moon better is the insight, understanding and harmony in love affairs, intimate relationship and marriage.

The important aspects other than marriage connected with this house are many and they revolve around relationship area, partnership, and foreign affairs, live in relationships, business partnership prospects among many others.

The horoscope has twelve houses and 7 planets are in control of them. The nodes Rahu & Ketu are shadowy planets and they do not own Zodiac signs.

The 9 planetary energies are closely interconnected and there is hardly any area of life that can be taken as completely free of their effects. However the planets that are directly connected, their influence etches the Seventh House matters in a certain manner. The person enjoys, acts & displays very specific tendencies in life. I give below some examples.

Effect of Sun on the 7th house can be a source of trouble unless Sun is the ruler. Sun is a natural malefic and too fiery; may indicate unhappy married life. The person can be over ambitious; partner can be ill tempered leading to combative relationship. However matters will be quite different when Sun is located in this house as house lord. There can be royal courtship, brilliant match and luxurious life style.

Effect of Moon on the 7th house can make the person overly emotional in matters of relationships. The person is also rather fond of the opposite sex. If Moon is strong and benefic, there is success in partnerships. This placement often leads to early marriage.

Effect of Mars on the 7th house can be a difficult signature. It makes the person Manglik. This signature requires the partner to be Manglik as well in-order to enjoy a harmonious married life. Manglik concept in Vedic astrology is a very important concept for a healthy and happy marriage. It is believed that marriage between Manglik and non -Manglik can lead to all sorts of calamities. From times forgotten, people have sought advise on this aspect before stepping into wedlock.

Effect of Mercury on the Seventh House can mean the person seeks intellectual partnership more than physical. The relationship can have most enjoyable and satisfying mental affinity. On the negative side, afflicted Mercury can mean, lack of sexual satisfaction, pessimism in marital affairs leading to unromantic life. Mercury promotes communication at each level; any negativity attached to it may bring great misery in marriage or any kind of partnership.

Effect of Jupiter on the Seventh House can be a blessing in way of high prosperity, good health and wonderful spouse. Life is generally happy and there is very little to complain about. However any affliction to Jupiter may create all kinds of ups and downs in marital affairs.

Effect of Venus on the Seventh House mostly brings out romantic souls with terrific passion for sex. Generally this signature indicates a good life complete with romance and all sorts of luxuries of life. A beautiful Venus blesses married life with harmony, bonding and longevity especially if Venus is a functional benefic. However if the planet is weak and lowly, matters may become quite the opposite of what has been mentioned above.

Effect of Saturn on the Seventh House is not a favorable one. Saturn is a conservative and contracting planet and its energy does not sync well with the natural significances of the Seventh House. Saturn does not understand the expression of love, and in this house everything leads to expression. This signature may indicate reserved and uninteresting married life. However the person is responsible and will never turn away from duties.

The shadowy Rahu and Ketu is a pair who are also not welcome in this house. When the Seventh House falls in the Rahu- Ketu axis, there is often marriage break, unhealthy interest in opposite sex and dissatisfaction in married life.

Generally it is found that Seventh House does the best when there are no planets in the house unless it is the house lord.

The Seventh House is an area where two souls continue to blend into each other for life. This blending happens with time, understanding and mutual attraction. So whatever needs to be had here must be achieved with patience. Impulsive actions may damage and abort the process for life. So learn to be calm and channel your energies in a manner that intensifies the bonding.
