The gift of gab - by Madhushri Mukherjee

Make Your Gifts SpecialAre you the one that always steps in and leads the group conversation? Do you have what it takes to be the life of the party? If yes then you will go far in life.

Turn a conversation into an interesting anecdote and remain in the minds of everyone - this is the dream & desire of many but very few can actually manage to achieve it. Some try for it with a lot of gusto and end up in a mess. It is better to be quiet than be loud and talk ten to a dozen.

‘ The gift of gab’

This means - you can always speak well naturally and can easily turn extremely boring subjects into interesting topics of lively discussions. This is a boon indeed and comes in great use in each walk of life, be it personal or professional.

Speech is something - by it we express ourselves! In absolute terms it is the first point of dynamic connection. The visual is perhaps the first point of contact but then the language of the eyes are not always understood or even intended to be clearly understood. So the obvious next is the speech.

In Vedic astrology, the 2nd house governs speech and it is an important area. Astrologers look at this house quite automatically at the onset of any horoscope analysis.

The obvious reasons being:

•How does the earning and spending ratio balance?
•How does general family happiness fare?
•How does the person speak?
•How is the person?

The significator or Karaka of the 2nd house is planet Jupiter. The planet has to do with all kinds of accumulation. Just as it can accumulate fat when in connection with the 1st house, a strong and benefic Jupiter can help accumulate wealth and give wisdom in speech. The same can also help you to gather knowledge, a great benefic who is generally known as ‘guru’.

The planet that cannot be forgotten in regard to speech is Mercury. Known as the messenger of god, this planet can give ‘ wit and humor ‘much sharper than any other planet. Also known to give pointed intelligence and generally known as ‘Budh’ – derived from the word ‘Budhi’ which translates to intelligence.

The nine planetary energies are closely interconnected and there is hardly any area of life that can be really taken as completely free of all their effects. However when they are directly connected to the 2nd house, their influence on speech is quite prominent and makes the person speak and react to speech in a certain manner. I give below some examples.

Saturn gifted wit and humor can be quite sarcastic and often dispensed at the expense of someone else’s ridicule. Jupiter given wit and humor can be expansive. Mars driven people often fail to understand ‘what should be said and what not’. The Venus person is bright and interesting especially to the opposite sex the conversation can be really radiating and tantalizing but speech is guarded and balanced. When we come to the two luminaries, Sun and Moon, a good Sun person can easily be the most prominent personality in the room; speech would often be powerful and brilliant. When we come to Moon, strong lunar power in a person can attach a subtle and subdued halo to speech. Never forgetting once that Moon is after all the main power behind manifestation; such a person is capable of silencing a crowd with the delivery of a single sentence – such is the impact!

The above are applicable when the respective planet is strong, but unfortunately when the planet is weak just the contrary can hit. But to come back to ‘gift of gab’ theme – the best are those with brilliant Mercury, reasonably good Sun and strong and unaffiliated 2nd house and its lord.
